Passion Projects in Mrs. Moss's class are complete!

 We just wrapped up our annual Passion Project presentations in Mrs. Moss's classroom, and our gifted 5th graders did not disappoint! Students spent the past few weeks exploring topics they are genuinely passionate about. The final showcase was a fantastic display of their hard work, creativity, and determination.

We saw everything from sports museums to sports fields; from Star Wars battle gear to hunting history; and from student drawn art to an extra deep study into pets. Like I tell my students, "No one can know everything about everything. We all can learn something new!" And I must say, I learned a LOT from these students as they presented their projects. A huge congratulations to all our young researchers for a job well done!

Quest Game Designers!

Mrs. Moss's 5th grade Quest class is currently working on a game making unit. Students had the choice to either work with a partner to construct a unique board game, or to work independently to create an online game using a coding site. Students are required to incorporate strategy, setbacks/penalties, 3D and moving parts, as well as write thoughtful directions that would allow any player to easily understand the game play rules. Messes are being made...but I think more fun is being had! I cannot wait to see the final products next week!

Fun with Forensics!

Last week we completed our Intro to Forensics unit. We started by learning how to be good observers. This was much more difficult than many expected! Next, we learned to lift fingerprints and identify them as loop, whorl, or arch. Then, we learned the importance of Forensic Odontology. Candy made this lesson sweet! Finally, we learned how to take a cast of a footprint left at the "scene." We then compared the cast to a few suspects' shoe impressions. We hope to revisit this unit at a later date, where we will learn about fiber/hair analysis, evidence collection, handwriting analysis, and secret messages, as well as how to use a black light at the scene.

Completed Eco-Art projects!!

 The final products turned out fantastic! We had a lizard, an alligator head, online game characters, a cake, The 3 Little Pigs storybook scene, a black widow, a snake, and many more creations! Mrs. Moss's students were tasked with creating an art piece using 90% natural materials. This turned out to be quite a challenge for many students. There were many obstacles each had to overcome in order to complete the project. All persevered and were able to turn out an amazing art display!
